Bedroom in progress

I've recently been trying to figure out what to do with our master bedroom. It always seems to be the last room in the house that gets any attention. I guess it's because I can close the door and hide it from anyone seeing. But, it's time for a change.
We originally wanted to do a beach theme. I already have a bunch of decorations that are teal so we went with that. We picked out a few things like a quilt for the bed which has different shells patterns sewn on it. Derek also picked out a few things to put in the bathroom. It ended up having more of a boat feel but that's ok.
I found this great net with sea shells sewn in it that I decided to hang over our bed.
I also had this idea in my head of hanging an ore on top of the net.
I looked all online to find an old ore but you'd be surprised how much people ask for that!
So, I decided to go looking through one of my grandpa's old storage shed and.....there it was!!
It was waaaay in the back of this shed that was FULL of old fishing poles. I was so excited!
Once I got home, I cleaned it up and painted a line from one of my favorite Taylor Swift songs on it :)
"You are the best thing that's ever been mine" It's a very true statement.
So, this is what it looked like.....

It's hard to see right? The (horrible) color of the wall washed everything out. So, I decided to paint the wall white. It was the only wall in the room that was painted and I was so over it.
During this time I also fell in love with the "white shabby chic" look so white walls worked with that.
Btw, the heart you see hanging on the wall that says Derek & Alysha, Derek made that for me a few years ago for Christmas :)

This is just what it looks like with the bed and our quilt we picked out.

My dad had this great bedroom set from when he was growing up and guess what....the headboard looks like the wheel from a big boat! I'm not exactly sure what they're called.

This is what it currently looks like. I'm not sure this is how it's going to stay because my taste is constantly changing. But for now we are enjoying our beachy bedroom. The pillow you see with the red stripes I made :) It's one of my first pillows that I sewed on my new sewing machine.

I'll keep you updated on the completion of the room. I should be getting a dresser soon and I already have an idea of what I'm going to do with it. Also, I have painted my nightstands but they were a little too messy to take a picture of :/ I'll post them later.
Hope everyone is having a great week so far!

Burlap Lamp

I made a last minute decision last night to redecorate my lamp from my nightstand.
Remember the oysters we had? My dad brought them home in this awesome burlap potato sack.
This is what it looks like. It's a little disfigured, but I forgot to take the picture until after I cut a chunk out of it. Oops.

I decided not to use the words on the front and instead used a plain piece from the back.

This is the before picture of the lamp.
Not too bad but it needed a little help

I decided to spray paint the base of the lamp with a metalic color I had on hand. I don't even know where this paint came from but it's amazing. Covers everything perfect. Then I glazed it with a black glaze I got from Lowes.

I did a thin layer of the glaze and then wiped it off with a paper towel.

After taking off the beads, I cut a piece of burlap that fit perfectly around the bottom of the shade and a little taller than the top of lamp shade.

First, I hot glued the bottom part of the shade to the burlap. I took a piece of string and tied the top. once I got it in place, I glued a few spots to help hold it up. I folded the top layer over to give it a smoother look.
So this is basically it. I'm not completely happy with it yet so I'm sure I will tweak it a little and maybe add something but you get the general idea.

It goes with the Shabby Chic look I'm working on for our bedroom.

I hope everyone has a great weekend and Happy Veterans Day!

Tin Foil Table

A few months ago I decided to try and change my (not so pretty) coffee table into a tin foil coffee table.
I got the idea from one of my favorite blogs Vintage Revivals. Mandi is the genius who runs it and I LOVE everything she does! You should seriously check out her blog http://vintagerevivals.blogspot.com/
the coffee table I used was one that was given to me a while back. I left it as is but it really wasn't the prettiest thing so I decided it needed a change. This was the look I was going for.

                                                                     Awesome right?

This is right after I finished putting on the tin foil. I think this is before I glazed it.
So after LOTS of tin foil and LOTS of modge podge and a little glazing, this is what I got...........

Cute?
I hope you like it. If you would like the tutorial, this is the one I used.

Oysters

My Aunts came down to visit for a couple weeks so we decided to cook some oysters for lunch today.
Looks good right?
Yuck! I guess I'm the odd one in my family because I hate them.
The best part of oysters is watching everyone try and open them :)

Officially a blogger!

So, I finally started my very own blog!
I've been stalking peoples blogs for several months now. I was first introduced to the blog world through a friend that started one about a year ago. Now, I'm OBSESSED to say the least.
I have some favorites that I follow (I will feature them later) and I started trying out some of the projects that they have done. Now, I enjoy painting furtiture, crafting, and even couponing.
I've had several friends and family encourage me to start a blog so I can show all the things I've made. I was a little leary becasue I'm not the best writer in the world. But, after much thought....here I am!
Enjoy!
